SNET Internet

Europe is the fantasy vacation destination of choice for respondents to this week's SNET Internet survey, followed by Australia. We phrased the question deliberately to leave North America off the list of places that could be chosen for a free, extended vacation because we were more curious about where people would go if they had to get out of the country.

Atlantis did about as well as could be expected, we think. :-)

If you could take a free, extended vacation on another continent, which one would you choose?

  • Africa - 193 (5%)
  • Antarctica - 88 (2%)
  • Asia - 192 (5%)
  • Australia - 1,327 (32%)
  • Europe - 1,741 (41%)
  • South America - 156 (4%)
  • Atlantis - 229 (5%)

Your comments:

"All of the former survey questions were real and in effect stayed within the boundaries of current affairs and public awareness. Why on earth would you ask a question about where we would want to spend a free vacation? Is there nothing else going on in the world?" Frank, Mansfield

"I have traveled across the United States twice and there is so much beauty here in the United States. There are too many horrible things happening in the different countries. Why tempt fate?" D.Z., Norwich

"I love Atlantis. My friend Laura hates it." Kristen, Old Saybrook

"The only flight to Europe I'd like to see fly is a few ICBMs One pointed at Paris and one at Berlin." Alex, Bristol

"I ain't goin' nowhere! I'm a gonna' stay home and drink beer and play solitaire and smoke cigars. There ain't no better place than right here in the good ol' USA. Especially in Bristol! We got Lake Compounce, a Clock Museum, a Carousel Museum and 500 pizza joints! What more could you ask for?" J.R., Bristol

"I think I would take a trip to Europe because a lot of people have gone there and they said a lot of countries there are amazing." S.M., Chaplin

"I would love to spend time exploring China, Japan, the beautiful island of Cebu in the Philippines." B.L., Milford

"Most people have been to Europe at least once. I have been a few times and I am only 15. I chose Australia because that is a more complicated trip and more adventurous. The plane tickets are more expensive and more plans must be made. I feel that kids need to travel, because colleges loom for that now, they care less about grades and clubs, more about connections and what you have done and where. Well, I give my vote to vegemite capital (it is sooo salty).....The Land Down Under!" Jules, Storrs
