SNET Internet
Features

Not surprisingly, the vast majority of the respondents to this week's survey noted that they relied most on television for information about the recent attacks. It's interesting to note that the Internet and radio were in a statistical dead heat, especially considering how new the 'Net is as a news medium.

The results:

What source are you relying on most for news about the terrorist attacks?

  • Television - 3,552 (82%)
  • Radio - 242 (6%)
  • Newspapers and magazines - 173 (4%)
  • Internet - 286 (7%)
  • Other - 1,073 (1%)

Your comments:

"I think the media push for time of attacks or tell the public when the Vice-President is going to Camp David giving anyone information that should not be given out to the public." S.J.B., Middletown

"What a stupid survey question this is. Who cares what source of information I'm using. Can't you people think of something more appropriate?" Al, Bristol

"I was born in Italy and I am a U.S. citizen and proud of it. The American Government should restrict visas to all the criminals who come to the U.S.A. First we train them and this is the thanks we get. God bless America." M.S., Rocky Hill

"Though I am relying on television reports I am angry about the type of reporting we are getting from some newscasters. I DO NOT see the need for the public and perhaps the enemy, to know where the President is and where he's going. I do not want to see cameras shoved in the faces of victims and relatives waiting for word on missing loved ones and rescue workers to give us a better idea of the misery that lies in the hearts of them and all compasionate Americans. It is in VERY POOR TASTE!" Rose, Andover

"The radio has been my main source of info during this national tragedy. We only have a radio at work, and we all listened to it unfold together. When I got home on 9-11, I turned on the TV. My stomach was in knots all day and It was all so unreal, but the pictures killed me. I get most of my info from the radio now because I can not bear to see the horrific pictures anymore. They will always will be etched in my mind forever. I can not watch them over and over. My heart goes out to all of the victims and rescue workers. My prayers will always be with them. God Bless America! " L.J.N., East Haddam

"By far the best coverage i thought was on C-Span, but if I checked off television most people would assume that I meant network TV which was good at first but then turned to sensationalism like showing repetitive pictures over and over of the planes crashing into the towers four days after the event." P.T.D., Waterbury

"I try, but with all my homewok it's hard. In school, the teachers want us to watch, but our administration decided to 'cut the cable' for CNN or other news networks. Teachers found loopholes though...radio, and live internet connection with the computer hooked up to a projecter. The footage they have is excellent on TV, although very grave. Words can't show the same things TV can, and never will." Jules, Storrs

"I would just like to say I pray for world peace. I believe that President Bush will do what needs to be done. It is very hard to come to work every day, knowing that we as Americans do not know what is going to happen next. We are strong and we will survive this. I look at people that have been through battles in the past and I look at young children that I hope will never have to go through battle. If we do not take care of this now, people will think Americans can be walked on. Yes, I want peace and I believe the only way for us to truly have peace is to show that the United States can NOT be walked on. We are strong, we are united, We are going to win this. There have been embassys and destroyers attacked in the past and we have done at that time what we could do. However they have hit the United States soil this time. We can not let this once go on. I wish I was still in the Military, I am proud to be in the USA. I am proud to have served in the USA, I am proud of all that have served for us." Jennifer, Naugatuck

"I do watch TV for information but some of the information has been wrong! Some have been mistinformed and still others have to make up something to get on the news! Yet we all somehow need to know." G.L., Guilford

"I think that the media is doing a really good job at covering the recent disasters in New York and Washington. They should keep it up. The TV news I would have to say is doing the best job." Keith, Lisbon
