If you believe this week's completely unscientific SNET Internet survey, you'd surely think that Connecticut is a superstitious state! Over 60% of respondents believe that ghosts do exist or are likely to exist. Only 30% of our voters disagree with the idea of ghosts - I guess they haven't met one yet.
Do you believe in ghosts or other physical manifestations of a spirit world?
- No, it's superstitious nonsense - 608 (18%)
- Not really - 369 (11%)
- I don't really know - 386 (11%)
- I think such things are likely - 1,297 (37%)
- I know such things exist - 804 (23%)

"You never really fully believe in ghosts exist unless the experience comes your way. I have seen a ghost at a resturant that I use to work at. I had people calling me a 'Ghostbuster' - but I know what I saw. I never described to anyone what I saw until the following day when the owner of the resturant asked me what I saw. I saw a shadow of a man, a plaid shirt and blue pants. I saw a full figure at the door, but the door was only part window. I saw a whole man, walking outside,at the door. It was 20 below with a wind chill, the outside area was closed and locked for the season. The owner told me I described the same thing that other people had described when they saw something. The customer I was waiting on looked at my face and asked me if I was alright. I couldn't believe what I saw. I heard stories of desserts being thrown around like frisbees, windows with alarms being wide open in the morning with no alarm going off. File cabinets being locked, chairs on tables, salt and pepper shakers tipping over for no reason. Then I saw what they all knew. The story is that a man died there of consumption with a wife and small child. He didn't want to leave them alone so he has stayed ever since. There is something out there, I will always believe that. I have a greater respect for the unknown and for the after-world. We will all experience it someday." L.J.N., East Haddam
"I used to live in house that was haunted by ghosts. Strange things happened. A few years later it was proven to be haunted by the Warrens." Linda, Torrington
"The topic of ghosts is one of which I am skeptical. Being more of a "scientific" person, I feel that should ghosts be real, then we would have a definite answer given all the technology, etc. available today. For me, ghosts fall in the category with Yeti, Loch Ness monster, etc. If they exist, we would know for sure. Until that time, I will not believe unless I see them with my own eyes." JoAnn, Moosup
"I Think that ghosts, spirits, and other supernatural things may be out there but I guess I would have to experience it for myself to believe it. Im definitely not shutting out the possibity of things like this happening to people." Jessica, Naugatuck
"Once again these surveys prove that the majority of people in Connecticut are idiots. Hey, if they believe Chris Dodd, I'm sure they believe in ghosts too." Al, Bristol
"I do believe in ghosts, but not the ones on the TV where they claim that they can record them with a microphone! That type of stuff is a hoax, but I do think that there are ghosts!" G.L., Guilford
"I believe that the so-called spirits are just demons, not persons that need help or that can help you. The bible clearly said that the dead don't know anything, so why believe other things?" V.N., Waterbury
"I do not believe in ghosts. I do believe that there are demons that harass humans for the sole purpose of drawing them away from God. Their whole purpose is to lie, steal and destroy. These demons are part of Satan's armies that are invisible to the naked eye. If we could see into the spiritual world we would see these beings along with the fallen angels as well as those angels sent by God almighty to help the children of God. When a person sees what he appears like a long dead relative it is a familiar spirit that knew that person in life and is sent to confuse the living. It is not that person, for it says in the scriptures that for the believer to be absent of the body is to be present with the Lord forever, and for the unbeliever that has died in his or her sins eternal damnation in a place of fire and torment. Neither can come back here, at whatever place they find themselves is where they stay." Cephas, New Britain
"I understudied to be a Baptist Minister several years ago and during the course of my Bible studies, I experienced a spiritual interaction that has changed my life, and I still remember it today.
The unknown entity, or whatever it was attempted to discourage me, but I began saying the Lords prayer. The entity made a loud wailing sound and disappeared. as hard as it may be to believe - as God is my witness, it is true." T.J.H., West Haven
