DSL
Speed Test
SNET guarantees to Standard DSL subscribers a minimum download speed
of 384 kilobits a second locally -- from your computer to
the site in your community that connects you to the telephone company
network and the Internet.
From that site, you
are connected to the telephone company''s ATM (Asynchronous Transfer
Mode) network and then to the Internet. SNET Internet does not guarantee
speed on the ATM network, though there should be a negligible difference
between your speed there and your speed locally. SNET Internet,
of course, cannot generally guarantee Internet data transfer speeds
to any sites not on our immediate network.
To get an idea of
what speed at which your DSL connection is functioning, please visit
our DSL Speed Test Page.
This page will give you a good approximation of your data transfer
speed between your home and the telephone company's ATM network.
Note that the test does NOT give your speed to your most immediate
network connection in your community. It gives your data transfer
speed out one step further --- to the telephone company's ATM network.
If your transfer speed
as measured by the DSL Speed Test is less than 384 kilobits a second,
it could indicate:
- A problem with
your settings
- A problem with
our local network
- A problem with
the telephone company's ATM network
